But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17: 7-8
I love this passage of Scripture! This is one of those verses that we hear frequently in sermons, on cards, or on keychains. Yep! I had it on a key chain. My girlfriend gave it to me when I was stressing out about planning my wedding almost 20 years ago. It's since broken. I think I have it in a box somewhere as a keepsake.
The Lord brought this verse to mind about this time last year. I started dissecting it and really researching its various parts. What does it mean to really trust? How can I bear fruit in years of drought?
Here's what surprised me. These two little verses precede it:
Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord. He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.”
What a crazy comparison, huh? What a contrast!
May you always trust in the Lord for your strength and dig deep into His Word to receive His Living Water. Regardless of the circumstances you are in, may you bear the fruit of His Spirit in your life for His glory.
Blessings and joy,
