Kaycee's Masterpiece Oven BBQ Chicken
Jun 02, 2015Kaycee's Masterpiece Oven BBQ Chicken
This recipe is absolutely delicious!–& the bonus is that it is really easy to make. I waited several years to make it after getting the recipe at my bridal shower, but it’s now a family favorite!
This recipe has the weirdest combination of ingredients, but it is truly scrumptious. It is my “go-to meal” whenever I'm taking meals to families with new babies. I always get asked for this recipe when I make it for others.
You can make this chicken dish in the oven or in the crockpot. It turns out great both ways. However, my family all agrees they like it in the crockpot a bit more since the flavor really soaks in.
The original recipe said to marinate it overnight. This was one step that made me shy away from trying this recipe (aside from the strange mix of ingredients). I always seem to forget to get things marinated the night before. I'm too tired to think about the next day when I am just thinking about what I need to get done for the day so I can go to bed. 🙂
Whenever my friends tell me they've hit a rut in their meal planning, this oven BBQ chicken recipe is what I recommend.
A Few Tips
Ingredients:
I buy my onion soup mix at a whole foods type of store to avoid the normal MSG that is added to the package with the popular brands. I get Annie’s Naturals Organic French Dressing there as well. It’s an 8 oz. bottle. This dressing doesn’t have the normal high fructose corn syrup that other grocery store brands have. This is all my attempt to try to talk myself into thinking this can be a healthy meal. 🙂
I usually get the normal size can of cranberry sauce (15oz) and just use half. We’ve used both jellied and whole, and they are both great.
I sometimes make double the marinade in order to use the whole can of cranberries. I just split the marinade in half and place the unused portion in a ziplock and freeze!
Crock-Pot Meal:
I just started making this recipe in the crockpot instead of the oven for convenience. I find the chicken is extra tender when I make it in the crockpot. Either way, this is a great meal to throw together easily. I try to keep extra ingredients in the pantry so I can make it anytime. The kids love it!! I highlighted this recipe last year in my Top 10 “Freezer Meal 2 Crock Pot” Recipes post.
Goes Great With:
Goes great with rice and whatever type of veggies or salad you’d like. This meal is so tasty that you can serve it with brown rice and your kids won’t notice. 🙂
Try it!! You’ll love how easy and tasty it is!
